Description

Comforting and savory, these Weight Watchers Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes feature lean ground beef or turkey with veggies and a tangy sauce on toasted whole-grain buns, topped with reduced-fat provolone.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef or turkey
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup low-sodium beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 whole grain hamburger buns
  • 1 cup reduced-fat provolone cheese, shredded

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef or turkey and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
  2. Drain any excess fat, then add the chopped onion, bell pepper, minced garlic, and sliced mushrooms. Cook until the vegetables are tender, about 5–7 minutes.
  3. Stir in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, black pepper, and salt. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10–15 minutes until thickened.
  4. Toast the whole grain buns until golden. This helps them hold up to the filling.
  5. Spoon the beef mixture onto the toasted buns, top with shredded provolone cheese, and let melt before serving.

Notes

For extra melty cheese, place assembled sandwiches under a broiler for 1 minute. Adjust seasonings to taste.
