Description

A classic, creamy vanilla buttercream frosting perfect for cakes, cupcakes, and cookies.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 16 oz powdered sugar (about 4 cups)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt (optional)
  • 12 tbsp milk or heavy cream (optional, to adjust consistency)


Instructions

  1. Soften the butter by letting it sit at room temperature until cool to touch.
  2. Cream the butter in a mixing bowl for about 4–5 minutes until pale and fluffy.
  3. Add powdered sugar and vanilla, mixing until incorporated, then whip for 3–4 minutes until smooth.
  4. Adjust the consistency by adding milk or cream as needed.
  5. Use the frosting immediately, or store in an airtight container, re-whipping before use.

Notes

For smoother texture, sift powdered sugar before use. Room temperature butter works best for this frosting.
