Description

An indulgent treat featuring chewy Korean rice cakes glazed with a sweet and savory sauce made from butter, honey, and soy sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Korean rice cakes (soaked if using frozen or refrigerated)
  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil (like canola or vegetable)
  • ΒΌ cup butter
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce

Instructions

  1. If using frozen or refrigerated rice cakes, soak them in water for 20–30 minutes and then pat them dry.
  2. In a large skillet, heat the neutral oil over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the rice cakes to the skillet and sear them undisturbed for about 2 minutes until golden brown.
  4. Flip the rice cakes and cook for another 3 minutes, then transfer them to a plate.
  5. Lower the heat to medium, then add butter, honey, brown sugar, and soy sauce to the skillet. Stir until smooth and bubbly.
  6. Return the seared rice cakes to the pan, tossing to coat evenly in the glaze. Cook for an additional 1–2 minutes.
  7. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

Consider using flavored soy sauces or adding sesame seeds for extra crunch. For a spicy kick, add a dash of chili flakes to the glaze.
