An indulgent treat featuring chewy Korean rice cakes glazed with a sweet and savory sauce made from butter, honey, and soy sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 pound Korean rice cakes (soaked if using frozen or refrigerated)
- 1 tablespoon neutral oil (like canola or vegetable)
- ΒΌ cup butter
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
Instructions
- If using frozen or refrigerated rice cakes, soak them in water for 20β30 minutes and then pat them dry.
- In a large skillet, heat the neutral oil over medium-high heat.
- Add the rice cakes to the skillet and sear them undisturbed for about 2 minutes until golden brown.
- Flip the rice cakes and cook for another 3 minutes, then transfer them to a plate.
- Lower the heat to medium, then add butter, honey, brown sugar, and soy sauce to the skillet. Stir until smooth and bubbly.
- Return the seared rice cakes to the pan, tossing to coat evenly in the glaze. Cook for an additional 1β2 minutes.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
Consider using flavored soy sauces or adding sesame seeds for extra crunch. For a spicy kick, add a dash of chili flakes to the glaze.
