Description
Delicious and simple strawberry shortcake made with fresh strawberries, whipped cream, and an airy cake.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a round cake pan.
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk together until well mixed.
- Add softened butter, milk, and vanilla extract to dry ingredients, stirring until smooth.
- Pour batter into prepared cake pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
- Whip heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form.
- Once the cake has cooled, slice it horizontally in half.
- Layer fresh strawberries and whipped cream between the cake layers and on top.
- Serve chilled and enjoy!
Notes
For a fluffier whipped cream, chill your mixing bowl and beaters before whipping. You can also add orange juice or zest to the strawberries for extra flavor.
