Description

Delicious and simple strawberry shortcake made with fresh strawberries, whipped cream, and an airy cake.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a round cake pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk together until well mixed.
  3. Add softened butter, milk, and vanilla extract to dry ingredients, stirring until smooth.
  4. Pour batter into prepared cake pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
  5. Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
  6. Whip heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form.
  7. Once the cake has cooled, slice it horizontally in half.
  8. Layer fresh strawberries and whipped cream between the cake layers and on top.
  9. Serve chilled and enjoy!

Notes

For a fluffier whipped cream, chill your mixing bowl and beaters before whipping. You can also add orange juice or zest to the strawberries for extra flavor.
