Description

A delicious breakfast casserole featuring layers of bread, ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese, soaked in a custard mixture for a hearty morning meal.


Ingredients

  • 8 slices of bread (preferably white or brioche)
  • 4 ounces of sliced ham
  • 4 ounces of sliced turkey
  • 4 ounces of Swiss cheese
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1/4 cup of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • Powdered sugar for serving
  • Jam for serving


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  3. Layer half of the bread slices on the bottom of the dish.
  4. Top with the sliced ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese.
  5. Add the remaining bread slices on top to create a second layer.
  6. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
  7. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the layered bread and toppings.
  8. Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or preferably overnight, to let the bread soak up the flavors.
  9. Bake uncovered for 45 minutes, or until golden brown and set in the center.
  10. Dust with powdered sugar before serving, and enjoy it warm with your favorite jam.

Notes

Use slightly stale bread for better absorption of custard. Customize with different cheeses or meats as desired.
