Description

A flavorful twist on a classic dish, this Italian Meatloaf is infused with herbs and spices, topped with mozzarella and marinara sauce, making it a family favorite.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/3 cup Italian seasoned bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chopped basil (or 1 teaspoon dried basil)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley (finely chopped)
  • 1 cup pasta sauce or marinara sauce
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese (shredded and divided)
  • 1 large egg (slightly beaten)


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, parmesan cheese, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, Italian seasoning, onion powder, garlic powder, fresh basil, parsley, 1/2 cup of sauce, 1/2 cup of mozzarella cheese, and the beaten egg.
  3. Gently mix everything until well combined.
  4. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil, then form the mixture into a loaf about 1 inch thick, 8 inches long, and 4 inches wide.
  5. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes.
  6. Once baked, spread the remaining sauce over the meatloaf and sprinkle with the remaining mozzarella cheese.
  7. Return to the oven for an additional 10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Serve hot and enjoy the flavorful result!

Notes

For added flavor, consider mixing cheese directly into the meat mixture or adding finely chopped vegetables.
