Description

A healthier take on the classic Cheez-Its, made with simple ingredients for a crispy snack that’s perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • Ice water (as needed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the shredded cheese and softened butter. Mix until well blended and creamy.
  3. Add in the flour, salt, and any spices you choose to use. Stir until the mixture becomes crumbly.
  4. Gradually add ice water, mixing until a smooth yet not sticky dough forms.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and roll it out to about 1/8 inch thick.
  6. Use a knife or pizza cutter to cut the dough into small squares. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes, watching closely until they turn golden and crispy.
  8. Allow them to cool before diving in!

Notes

For variations, consider using pepper jack cheese for heat or mix in herbs like rosemary for added flavor.
