Description
A comforting hybrid of a classic Philadelphia cheesesteak and a Sloppy Joe, filled with savory beef, caramelized veggies, and melty provolone.
Ingredients
- 450g lean ground beef
- 30g butter
- 1 small yellow onion, diced
- 1 small green bell pepper, diced
- 230g brown mushrooms, minced
- 30g ketchup
- 240ml beef broth
- cornstarch (amount per directions)
- salt and pepper (to taste)
- 225g provolone cheese, chopped or shredded
- 6 brioche hamburger buns
Instructions
- Heat a heavy skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned.
- Reduce heat to medium, add butter, and sauté onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms until softened.
- In a bowl, whisk together beef broth, cornstarch, ketchup, salt, and pepper. Pour into the pan and simmer until thick.
- Add the browned beef back to the pan and stir to combine.
- Turn off the heat and fold in provolone until melted.
- Lightly toast brioche buns, spoon in the beef mixture, and serve immediately.
Notes
For a healthier version, use lean ground turkey and a dairy-free cheese alternative. For extra flavor, add Worcestershire sauce to the sauce mixture.
