Description

A cozy and sophisticated twist on the classic sloppy joe, featuring caramelized onions, savory ground beef, and melted Swiss cheese.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (85% lean)
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • dried thyme, to taste
  • salt, to taste
  • black pepper, to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • Fresh parsley (optional for garnish)


Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and caramelized, about 10–12 minutes.
  2. Add the 2 cloves minced garlic and cook for an additional 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Push the onions to the side of the skillet and Add 1 pound ground beef. Cook until fully browned, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks.
  4. Stir in 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon soy sauce, dried thyme to taste, salt to taste, and black pepper to taste. Let the mixture simmer for 5 minutes so the flavors meld.
  5. Lightly toast 4 hamburger buns. Scoop the beef and onion mixture onto each bun’s bottom half and top with 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese.
  6. To melt the cheese further, place assembled sandwiches under a broiler for 1–2 minutes until the Swiss is bubbly and slightly browned.

Notes

Ensure to caramelize the onions slowly for the best flavor. Use toasted buns to prevent sogginess.
