Description

A delightful twist on classic French toast, this casserole combines rich cream cheese with juicy blueberries for a perfect brunch treat.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of bread (French or brioche)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Powdered sugar (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Cut the bread into cubes and layer half in the prepared dish.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese with the blueberries. Spoon this mixture over the bread cubes.
  4. Layer the rest of the bread cubes on top.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and cinnamon. Pour this mixture evenly over the layered bread.
  6. Cover with foil and refrigerate for at least one hour, or overnight if you have time.
  7. Bake, covered, for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the top is golden and set.
  8. Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar.

Notes

Enhance your serving experience by pairing with fresh fruit and whipped cream. Consider serving with crispy bacon for a savory balance.
