Description

A delightful dish that marries sweet, fluffy bread with a rich creamy custard, perfect for brunch or family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of challah or brioche bread
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for the streusel)

Instructions

  1. Begin by cutting your bread into cubes and placing them in a greased baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  3. Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, gently pressing them down to ensure everything is well-soaked.
  4. In another bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, all-purpose flour, and ground cinnamon, mixing until crumbly.
  5. Spread this delicious streusel topping over the bread mixture.
  6. Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or, for the best results, overnight.
  7. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for about 60 minutes, or until golden brown and set in the middle.
  8. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Dust with powdered sugar or add fresh berries and whipped cream for serving. Can be frozen for up to 2 months.
