Description

A warm apple crumb pie with a flaky crust and a crunchy oat-brown sugar topping, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 prepared pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
  • 6 cups apples, peeled and sliced (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (for crumb)
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened (cut into pieces for cutting in)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Fit the pie crust into a 9-inch pie pan; trim and flute the edges if you like.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and nutmeg. Toss until the fruit is evenly coated.
  4. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust and spread into an even layer.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, brown sugar, and rolled oats. Cut in the softened butter with a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture forms coarse crumbs.
  6. Evenly sprinkle the crumb topping over the apples, covering the filling.
  7. Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the apples are tender when pierced and the topping is golden brown. If the topping is browning too quickly, tent loosely with foil for the last 10–15 minutes.
  8. Let the pie rest at least 20 minutes before slicing so the filling sets. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

For extra flavor, choose a mix of tart and sweet apples. To prevent a soggy crust, toss apples with a bit of flour.
