Ingredients
- Fluffy vanilla sponge cake
- About 2 pints of fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- Strawberry simple syrup
- Heavy cream (for whipped cream)
- Sugar (to sweeten the whipped cream)
- Vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
- Bake the fluffy vanilla sponge cake according to your recipe or box instructions and allow it to cool completely.
- Slice the cooled cake horizontally into two or three layers.
- Brush each layer with strawberry simple syrup.
- Add sliced strawberries on top of the syrup-soaked layers.
- Spread lightly sweetened whipped cream over the strawberries.
- Top with another layer of whipped cream and garnish with fresh strawberries.
- Chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving.
Notes
Store the cake in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. Unassembled layers can be frozen for up to a month.
