Description

These Oven Baked Cheesy Tacos are a cozy, family-friendly recipe filled with savory meat and topped with melted cheese, perfect for busy weeknights or gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef or ground chicken
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 12 crunchy taco shells
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack or Mexican blend cheese
  • 1 cup salsa
  • Optional toppings: sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes, jalapeños, cilantro

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef or chicken over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add taco seasoning and water. Simmer for 3 to 4 minutes until thickened.
  4. Arrange taco shells upright in a 9×13 baking dish. If they tip, use a bit of foil to help them stand.
  5. Spoon the meat mixture evenly into each shell.
  6. Top with salsa and a generous sprinkle of both cheeses.
  7. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 10 minutes.
  8. Remove foil and bake another 5 to 10 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Add fresh toppings and serve warm.

Notes

To prevent shells from getting soggy, add a small layer of cheese before the meat. You can also mix in black beans or corn for added texture.
