These Oven Baked Cheesy Tacos are a cozy, family-friendly recipe filled with savory meat and topped with melted cheese, perfect for busy weeknights or gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef or ground chicken
- 1 packet taco seasoning
- 2/3 cup water
- 12 crunchy taco shells
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack or Mexican blend cheese
- 1 cup salsa
- Optional toppings: sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes, jalapeños, cilantro
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F.
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef or chicken over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add taco seasoning and water. Simmer for 3 to 4 minutes until thickened.
- Arrange taco shells upright in a 9×13 baking dish. If they tip, use a bit of foil to help them stand.
- Spoon the meat mixture evenly into each shell.
- Top with salsa and a generous sprinkle of both cheeses.
- Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 10 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake another 5 to 10 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Add fresh toppings and serve warm.
Notes
To prevent shells from getting soggy, add a small layer of cheese before the meat. You can also mix in black beans or corn for added texture.
