Description
A savory take on the classic Sloppy Joe featuring ground beef, caramelized onions, and melted Swiss cheese.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef (85% lean)
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 hamburger buns
- 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
- Fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring frequently, for about 10-12 minutes until they are golden and caramelized.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until fully browned, which should take about 5-7 minutes.
- Drain any excess fat, then mix in Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Allow it to simmer for about 5 minutes to blend the flavors.
- Toast the hamburger buns until golden.
- Scoop the beef mixture onto the bottom half of each bun, top with shredded Swiss cheese, and place on the top bun.
- Garnish with chopped parsley if desired!
Notes
For a lighter option, swap ground beef for ground turkey or plant-based meat. Serve open-faced on toasted baguette slices for a fun appetizer.
