Description

Indian Fry Bread is a versatile bread with a crispy exterior and soft, fluffy interior, perfect for snacking or as a side dish for various meals.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • Oil (for frying)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  2. Gradually add warm water while stirring until a soft dough forms.
  3. Gently knead the dough for about 3 minutes, just until it comes together.
  4. Cover the dough with a towel and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  5. In a frying pan, heat enough oil over medium-high heat to submerge the bread.
  6. Divide the dough into golf ball-sized portions and flatten them into disks about half an inch thick.
  7. Fry each disk in hot oil for about 2 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown.
  8. Once cooked, drain on paper towels and serve warm with your favorite toppings.

Notes

Feel free to substitute all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour for a healthier alternative. Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying to achieve a crispy texture.
