Description

Enjoy these hearty and satisfying cheesy meatball subs filled with homemade meatballs, marinara sauce, and topped with gooey mozzarella cheese, perfect for any gathering.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, egg, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined, then shape the mixture into meatballs.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until they are browned on all sides.
  4. Pour the marinara sauce over the browned meatballs in the skillet. Let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes to fully cook the meatballs and meld the flavors.
  5. Place the hoagie rolls on a baking sheet.
  6. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and fill each roll with a generous portion. Spoon additional marinara sauce over the meatballs for an extra burst of flavor.
  7. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top of each sub.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbling.
  9. Garnish with fresh basil, if desired, and serve hot!

Notes

For a leaner option, swap ground beef for turkey or chicken. Gluten-free breadcrumbs can be used for dietary restrictions.
