Description
A warm and comforting classic apple crisp featuring tender apples beneath a crunchy oat topping.
Ingredients
- 6 cups sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp recommended)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.
- In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with granulated sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice until evenly coated. Spread the apple mixture in the prepared baking dish in an even layer.
- In a separate bowl, combine the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, softened butter, and salt. Use your fingers or a fork to work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture is crumbly.
- Evenly sprinkle the oat mixture over the apples, covering them as much as possible.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender when pierced with a fork. If the topping browns too quickly, tent the dish loosely with foil for the final 10 minutes.
- Let the crisp rest for 5–10 minutes before serving. Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream.
Notes
For gluten-free, use a gluten-free flour blend and certified GF oats. For vegan, swap butter for a plant-based alternative.
