A healthier, air-fried version of the classic blooming onion that’s crispy, flavorful, and perfect for any gathering.
Ingredients
- 1 large onion
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- Cooking spray
Instructions
- Cut off the top of the onion and peel its outer layer.
- Make vertical cuts into the onion, forming petals, but don’t cut all the way through to the bottom.
- In a bowl, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
- In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until smooth.
- Dip the prepared onion in the egg mixture, then coat it evenly in the flour mixture.
- Carefully place the onion in the air fryer basket and lightly spray with cooking spray.
- Cook the onion at 350°F (175°C) for about 10-12 minutes or until it’s golden and crispy.
Notes
For a kick, consider adding cayenne pepper or experimenting with different types of breadcrumbs.
