Description

A healthier, air-fried version of the classic blooming onion that’s crispy, flavorful, and perfect for any gathering.

Ingredients

  • 1 large onion
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Cut off the top of the onion and peel its outer layer.
  2. Make vertical cuts into the onion, forming petals, but don’t cut all the way through to the bottom.
  3. In a bowl, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until smooth.
  5. Dip the prepared onion in the egg mixture, then coat it evenly in the flour mixture.
  6. Carefully place the onion in the air fryer basket and lightly spray with cooking spray.
  7. Cook the onion at 350°F (175°C) for about 10-12 minutes or until it’s golden and crispy.

Notes

For a kick, consider adding cayenne pepper or experimenting with different types of breadcrumbs.
